I just love the way they look against the green. After the party, I hung them in the boys' room as a memento.

I had a pinata, made from tissue paper, cardboard and party hats. I just forgot we had no tree to hang it from so I held it.

Then thought better and hung it on the post of our vegetable garden. Especially since T. plays second base and has a mean swing.

My niece still took a wack at it long after it broke open.

A few weeks ago, we celebrated my son's first birthday with a backyard party... for 85 people. Now, before you gasp, realize that between my husband's family and mine, there are 8 grandparents; 11 siblings; countless nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends and their kids.

In order to fully enjoy ourselves and not have to think about food and photos, we asked our friend Juan Carlos, a private chef, to prepare make-your-own tacos (it took two full days) and Meredith Zinner (mzphotography.com) to document the day. Juan has cooked for our family before, and Meredith is pretty much our family biographer, having been there for the birth of both my sons and many family events. She is a professional kids photographer, and having her around that day meant one less thing for me to worry about. She sent over about a dozen of the shots she took as a sneak peek, as she usually sends over a CD of about 150 and an album. I thought I would share them.

For the goody bags, my husband used our Yudu screen printer (ignore the current screen, it was for a friend's baby shower).
