Purple Party Food

Posted by Darcy Miller

Yesterday on the Martha Stewart Show, we celebrated all things purple with food, crafts, and decor inspired by my daughter Pippa's 3rd birthday celebration.

We chose a purple party because it's Pippa's favorite color, but you can create a party theme based on any color you'd like.

This beautiful purple cake was made by David Crofton of One Girl Cookies. I created the cake topper and illustration of Pippa.

David created different shades of purple, stacked to create the ultimate cake slice. The purple gingham napkin is from Oriental Trading.

David also created a recipe for Chocolate Whoopie Pies with Cassis Filling. If you're hosting a party for kids, you can skip the cassis. The filling is just as delicious without it!

Here's David and his wife Dawn Casale, co-owners of One Girl Cookies, posing with Martha on the set of The Purple Party Show.

David and Dawn just published their book, One Girl Cookies. This book is a baker's dream, full of modern sweets and old favorites like Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.

These doughnuts are sprinkled with sanding sugar from NY Cake and Bake and topped with my illustration of Pippa and a glittered number three. You can create your own by cutting out a number on glittered paper. The doughnuts are an easy-to-make time saver: just buy store-bought doughnuts and sprinkle sanding sugar on top.

The possibilities for a purple party are endless! Check back soon for purple favor, craft, and decor ideas to inspire your color-themed party.

  • Was wondering how you made the necklace for t-shirt yarn pom poms? All that is available is how to make the pom poms. Is there a how to page or sheet that would show how to make them. Thank you Pat Kuhn
